HW Legend is a portal active since 2010 dedicated to the world of PC hardware and technology, with an extensive archive of news, reviews and articles built over many years of continuous activity.

The project was taken on with the goal of modernizing the entire platform, maintaining editorial continuity and valorizing a very extensive content history, coming from a legacy Joomla system.

The context and needs

The initial design phase involved a complex migration, which included:

• Thousands of articles and historical content, with several hundred GB of associated content
• A consolidated editorial structure
• A regular and active audience
• A separate forum, based on phpBB

The design approach

The migration was carried out to WordPress multisite, adopting a tailored approach for the portal’s needs:

• Development of a custom theme, designed in accordance with the client’s directives and adapted to the different macro-areas of the site (tech, gaming, modding and overclock)
• Creation of ad hoc plugins to manage non-standard functionalities
• Integration with marketing automation systems
• Rationalization of the information structure, improving organization and usability of content

In parallel, the phpBB forum was also updated and integrated through the creation of a dedicated theme and plugins, in order to have a cohesive experience between site and forum.

The migration was the opportunity for a comprehensive rationalization of the platform, capable of supporting editorial work in the long term.
